Hello everyone!
How have you all been? Today, I had the pleasure of giving a lecture on Korean culture to a group of 46 Sejong Institute teachers who will be dispatched abroad soon. We dove deep into the vibrant tapestry that is Korean culture, and I hope they left with a few new stories to tell. 📸
It was a fantastic opportunity to share insights on teaching Korean culture and prepare these educators for their upcoming adventures. Looking forward to seeing how they'll spread the essence of Korea around the world!
Now, I would like to talk about how I plan to run the course. Clearly, this is what I have come up with, and I am open to your opinions and will make necessary changes to be more practical and promising. So, let me start the conversation, and then you tell me what you think!😃
During the 6 weeks of teaching, I want to divide the classes into 4 different parts.
Part 1: Vocabulary Learning Challenge.
We will learn 6 to 10 words in each class. I will provide the most common and essential vocabulary. You cannot make sentences without words, so I am sure you understand its importance! Thus, I will provide you with vocabulary sheets with pictures like this in the course. By the end of this class, you will have memorized about 70 words without realizing it. Through class time, you will learn words, and after class, you can review them yourself through a tool called Quizlet through games. (Do you think this number of words is appropriate?)
Part 2: Using Basic Grammar
In every class, we will learn and practice one grammar point. This practice is not just about watching the course and knowing it in your head, but about being able to actually use the grammar through transformation practice, sentence making practice, and discourse practice. Not just studying for the sake of studying grammar, but learning when you can use and apply that grammar, and on the last class day, we will review and practice all the grammar we have learned. (You can ask questions 1:1 at any time if you don't understand after class.)
However, I know everyone is different and learns at different speeds. So, just because I have set goals for you, it doesn't mean they are obligatory. If you cannot keep up, you might lose motivation and want to give up too early in the course. There could be various reasons why you can't do as much as others. Your work schedule might be busier than half of your classmates, you might have children to take care of, or you just might want to take the time to learn something. Since all classes are provided as recorded videos, you can study at your own pace. Assignments can also be adjusted to your situation. You just need to make sure you are doing what you can every day. Then I will be satisfied.
Part 3: Conversation Practice
I provide one dialogue in each class. This dialogue contains sentences that are practical and actually used, organized in an interesting drama format so that you don't lose interest. The intermediate drama is still in the planning stage, but once the story is somewhat complete, I will reveal the story of all LAK dramas that will follow from level 1 as a series. I think studying Korean through drama scripts made with vocabulary and grammar I know will be a big help in improving Korean skills.
Part 4: Assignments and Feedback
At the end of each class, you will be given assignments that allow you to practically apply what you have learned. Through the assignments, you can check again if you have understood correctly. And I will give feedback so that your assignments can be further improved.
This is almost everything that comes to my mind, so I'll stop here. But please let me know your thoughts. You might have an idea to improve this issue, so feel free to share! Your opinions are valuable, so I plan to modify and supplement the course according to your feedback.
For those of you who are still considering but have not registered for the class yet, there are only 3 days left for the discount period, and all classes are limited to a maximum of 12 people! So hurry and take your seat in class time!
