🌕 Hello, Korean Enthusiasts! 🌕
As we dive deeper into the beauty of Korean culture, we're excited to introduce you to a special festival that's just around the corner: Chuseok!
What is Chuseok? 🍂
Often referred to as 'Korean Thanksgiving,' Chuseok is a significant harvest festival celebrated with much joy and warmth in Korea. Falling on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, this year's Chuseok is on September 22nd. In Korea, a total of three days are designated as public holidays, one day before and after Chuseok, including the day of Chuseok. This year, the public holiday falls from September 28 to October 2, including weekends and substitute holidays.
Chuseok's Significance to Koreans 🇰🇷
Chuseok isn't just about the harvest; it's a time for families to come together. Rooted deeply in ancestral rites, it's a day when Koreans pay respects to their ancestors through a ceremony called 'Charye.' It's a way of expressing gratitude and remembering the lineage.
How is it Celebrated? 🎉
Imagine homes filled with the aroma of delicious Korean dishes, especially 'Songpyeon' – a type of rice cake filled with sweet fillings. Folk games like 'ganggangsullae' (a circle dance) and 'ssireum' (Korean wrestling) add lively e
nergy to the ambiance. Visits to ancestral hometowns, wearing traditional dresses 'Hanbok,' and sharing stories are all a part of this festive occasion.
Whether you're in Korea or elsewhere, we hope you can feel the spirit of Chuseok and maybe even try making some Songpyeon at home! 🥮
